All have high gloss white glazed interiors with matt unglazed exteriors.

Lovely pair of rare Rosenthal (Germany) porcelain cruets. Base marking of "Selb-Germany" used in the 1940's but more likely part of the "Continentl" series (1956-1988).

Condition: All porcelain in excellent condition. One of the corks was split after getting stuck inside a bottle and has since been re-bonded to the spout's shaft. Both corks now secure on the spouts.

Really nice pair of rare of "Sandpiper" bird cruets designed by Japanese ceramicist Kenji Fujita at Lagardo Tackett and Associates (1953) for the Freeman Lederman company (USA). The additional KF markings outside the boxed double FL logo on the base is clearly marked.
Dimensions: 5.25-ins tall and 4.25-ins tall
Condition: The larger bird has a tiny area of missing glaze on beak - very close to an equally small area of eye-color orange overglaze on the blue beak (see photos 4;6 & 7). Other than this both birds are in excellent condition.

Made in Italy for the Metropolitan Museum ceramic blue Hippo. Extract from the museum's web site ..."William" is a bright blue hippopotamus just under 8 inches high located in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Egyptian galleries. He is made of faience, a ceramic material that is fired at a high temperature, and is decorated with lotus blossoms, which represent the hippo's creative forces in nature. An Englishman, Captain H. M. Raleigh, and his family owned a picture of the hippopotamus, which they named William. In 1931 the captain wrote an article for the magazine Punch about his picture of William. The name caught on, and since that time the little blue hippo has been known as William to almost everyone.
